What People Ask Before They Request Service

Why does my backflow preventer need to be tested every year?
A backflow preventer keeps water from your property from flowing back into the public supply. Water districts require a certified test on assemblies they have on file, usually every year. Requirements vary by district.
What does a test cost?
Testing for eligible domestic or irrigation backflow devices 2 inches and under is $90 and includes certification and district filing. Submission timing, district processing and acceptance can vary. Devices larger than 2 inches need a team review for pricing.
Is there a Carlsbad resident rate?
Carlsbad residents automatically receive an 18% local discount on the $90 standard testing rate, making the testing rate $73.80. Repairs, replacements and other work are priced separately.
Do you send the results to my water district?
Testing includes certification and district filing. Submission timing, district processing and acceptance can vary.
What happens if my device does not pass?
When a device fails, the technician explains what was found and the repair or replacement options. A standard rubber-kit repair for devices 2 inches and under is $560.20 plus tax with hard parts extra, but not every failed device qualifies, and repairability can’t be guaranteed until it is inspected.
What do you not work on?
Mr. Backflow provides certified testing, repairs, replacements, and installations for backflow preventers up to 3 inches. Fire systems and larger assemblies are not included in our service scope.

We’ll confirm your appointment after we review your request and availability. If your deadline is close or has passed, contact us so the team can review availability.
Can you get my district deadline extended?
Water districts set their own deadlines and responses. Mr. Backflow cannot extend a district deadline or guarantee a compliance result. If your deadline is close or has passed, call (760) 492-7389 so the team can review the situation.
